MRS. MARTIN (Millie Brainard) VICKERY
Millie Vickery, daughter of Edgar and Barbra Brainard, was born May 15, 1883 in Post township, Postville, and passed away at the Postville Community Hospital, November 8, 1967, at the age of 84 years.
She received her early education at the Evergreen School in Post township and grew to womanhood in this community. On November 29, 1906 she was united in marriage to Martin Vickery of Postville. To this union were born four children -- three of who preceded her in death. The son, Roy died in a prison of war camp in Korea. There were also two adopted sons, James and Donald, both preceded her in death. Her husband passed away June 11, 1953.
Mrs. Vickery was a lifelong resident of Allamakee county. She was also a lifelong member of the E. U. B. Church. Her first membership was at the Bethel U. B. Church in Post township. She later transferred her membership to the Forest Mills E. U. B. Church when the Bethel Church was moved to Postville. She held many offices in the church during her lifetime, including superintendent of the Sunday School, a teacher, president of the Missionary Society, and Children's worker. She was widely known in the E. U. B. Church for her interest in missions. During her lifetime she sewed, knit and made hundreds of stockings, quilts, garments, baby clothes and mittens for the Mission program.
She leaves to mourn her passing one brother, George of Postville; one sister, Mrs. Ralph Petri of Chicago; four grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
Services were held Saturday at 1:30 from the Forest Mills E. U. B. Church with Rev. Curtis H. Webster officiating. Burial was made in the Minert Cemetery in Post township.
