Mildred Geneva Brandt, the daughter of Gilbert Haaken and Magda A. (Larson) Hanson, was born January 18, 1919, in Fayette County, near Clermont, Iowa. She passed away Thursday, June 12, 1997, at the age of 78 years, 4 months and 24 days.

She was baptized in the East Clermont Lutheran Church and confirmed at the Lutheran Church in Heartland, Minnesota. Mildred attended school at Heartland, Minnesota and at Clermont, Iowa. She worked for the telephone company in Clermont. Most of her years were spent working in the homes of various families.

On August 25, 1937, Mildred was married to Verni Brandt at West Union, Iowa. To this union a son, James, was born. The family lived in Clermont for many years and then moved to Postville Junction. Mildred became a resident of the Good Samaritan Center in Postville, Iowa, in 1996.

She is preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Louis Dean Hanson.

Surviving is her husband, Verni Brandt of Postville; a son, James Brandt and wife, Jane, of Decorah, Iowa; a brother, Dale Hanson of Waukon; two sisters, Bernice and husband, Charles Thomas, of Postville; and Doris and husband Eugene Malecki, of Chicago, Illinois; 5 grandchildren, Peggy (Brandt) Harms and husband, Troy, of Hampton, Iowa; Terry Brandt of Charles City, Iowa; Lori Christen of Decorah, Iowa; Gary Fritz, Jr., of Fayette, Iowa; and Steve Fritz and wife, Vicki, of Cresco, Iowa; 11 great-grandchildren; as well as other relatives and many friends and neighbors.

Mildred was a member of the West Clermont Lutheran Church in Clermont.
