Roy Sires, 97, of Waukon, Iowa, died October 18, 1985, at the Good Samaritan Center.
He was born near Dorchester, Iowa, March 10, 1888, the son of John and Catherine (Burroughs) Sires. He was a farmer and a mason. He was a lay minister in the Dorchester Methodist church and he was also an elder at the Seventh-Day Adventist churches in Hawkeye, Iowa, and in Waukon.
He married Lena Hahn in Waukon on September 25, 1906. She preceded him in death in August of 1971.
He is survived by the following sons and daughters: Mrs. Ronald (Sylvia) May of Clayton, Iowa; Goldie Rocksvold of Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin; James of Marshalltown, Iowa; Mrs. Lowell (Opal) Britain of Lincoln, Nebraska; Pearl Ehde and Emerald Grahlman of Waukon; Sardius Sires of Gleneden Beach, Oregon; Mrs. Albert (Beryl) Pokorny of Havana, Illinois; and Roy T. Sires of Waterloo, Iowa. Also surviving are 23 grandchildren, 42 great-grandchildren and 9 great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by brothers John, Joseph, William, Frank, Levi, James and Daniel; and by a sister, Minnie.
Services were held Sunday, October 20, at 1:30 p.m. at Martin Funeral Chapel. Pallbearers were John May, Thomas Rocksvold, James Grahlman, Joseph Pokorny, Daniel Pokorny and Stanley Herman. Rev. Gary Parker officiated and burial was in the English Bench cemetery.
