The death of William Spiegler, 73, occurred Tuesday evening at the Hanson nursing home where he received care about two months following a lingering illness.

A son of Mr. and Mrs. Barney Spiegler, he was born October 8, 1877, in Winneshiek county, and at the age of six, the family moved to Allamakee county, where the remainder of his life was spent.

He was bereft of his wife, the former Minnie Sires of Union City township, July 29, 1938, and two sons, one dying in infancy, and Marvin who met an accidental death in Canada in 1943.

Surviving are two brothers and five sisters, John of Waukon; Frank of Union City township; Mrs. Anna Buckendahl and Mrs. Ida Abbots of La Crosse, Wisconsin; Mrs. Sophia Sires of Waterloo, Iowa; Mrs. Clarence Bulman of Dorchester, Iowa; and Mrs. Albert Meyer of New Albin, Iowa.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday at Martin's Funeral Home and 2:00 o'clock at Mt. Hope Presbyterian church conducted by Rev. Calvin Willemssen of Lansing. Burial follows in the English Bench cemetery. John, Arthur and Frank Beardmore, John Bulman and Alan and Albert Hartley will serve as pallbearers.

Waukon- Services for William Spiegler, 73, who died Tuesday night at the Otto Hanson home here, were scheduled for Friday afternoon at the Mt. Hope Presbyterian church in Union township with the Rev. Calvin Willemssen officiating. Burial was in the nearby cemetery. The Martin brothers funeral home was in charge.

Spiegler was born Oct. 8, 1877 in Winneshiek county, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Barney Spiegler. He moved to Union City township with his family when he was a boy. He married Minnie Sires and continued farming in Union City township until 1938 when he moved to Waukon.

Surviving are two brothers, John, of Waukon, and Frank, of Dorchester, and five sisters, Mrs. Albert Meyer, of New Albin, Mrs. Clarence Bulman, of Dorchester, Mrs. William Buckendahl and Mrs. Ida Abbotts, both of Lacrosse, and Mrs. Sophia Sires, of Waterloo.

He was preceded by his wife and a son
