Deletta Elvers

Deletta M. Elvers, 80, of Waukon, died Thur., Nov. 14, 2002, at the Good Samaritan Center in Waukon. Funeral services were held Sat., Nov. 16, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Waukon, with Rev. Lynn Groe officiating. Burial was in Oakland Cemetery. Martin Funeral Home assisted with arrangements. Deletta Mae (Porter) Elvers was born on Aug. 26, 1922, on the Littleport, Iowa, farm of her parents, John Raymond and Mildred Mae (Parkinson) Porter. She graduated from Littleport High School. On Sept. 6, 1942, she married Dale J. Elvers in Edgewood. Deletta and Dale moved to Waukon in 1945 after Dale was discharged from the Army Air Corps. She was a bookkeeper for Home Gas Company and later Empire Gas Company of Waukon for over 30 years. Deletta was a active member of St. John's Lutheran Church, its ladies circles and WELCA, and the American Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed crocheting, knitting, and playing cards, especially euchre. She was also an excellent cook and baker, known for her cinnamon rolls and banana cream pie. Survivors include a daughter, Linda (Brad) Allen of Battlefield, Mo.; a son, Ronald Elvers of Iowa City, ; four grandchildren; and a brother, George (Una) Porter of Edgewood. She is preceded in death by her parents and her husband Dale, who died in 1986. Casket bearers were Don Sherman, Roger Weymiller, Ralph Welch, Jack Porter, Mark Deetz, and David Kupka.
