Mark Wagner

Mark J. Wagner, age 84, of Lansing, Iowa, died Monday evening, May 31, 2004, at Thornton Manor Nursing Home in Lansing. Funeral services were held Friday, June 4, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Lansing with Fr. Daniel Knipper officiating. Burial was in Wexford Immaculate Conception Cemetery, rural Lansing. Thornburg Hanson Funeral Home, Lansing, was in charge of arrangements.

Mark was born July 26, 1919, to Henry and Mary (Donahue) Wagner in Lafayette Township of Allamakee County, Iowa. He married Mary Dougherty May 18, 1943, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Waukon.

Mark was a longtime Wexford area farmer and retired in 1977. He also worked at Lansing Blumenthal Company from 1977 to 1984. Mark loved dancing and baseball: the Braves were the team he enjoyed most. He also enjoyed carpentry and fixing just about anything. Mark loved his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Mark is survived by his wife, Mary of Lansing; five children, Shari (Pat) Curran of Lansing, Bob (Karen) Wagner of Berryville, Va., Sheila (Merle) Hermsen of Long Grove, Iowa, Bill (Debbie) Wagner of Seattle, Wash., and Ben (Lisa) Wagner of Lansing; 14 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and two siblings, Francis Wagner and Marcella (LeRoy) McCabe, both of Waukon.

He was preceded in death by two grandchildren, Ellie Wagner and Lindsey Rose Hermsen; one sister, Rosemary Wagner; and a sister-in-law, Alberta Wagner.

Casketbearers were his grandchildren: Trish Koeppel, Nancy Leahy, Nate Curran, Nick Curran, Brent Wagner, Leasha Wagner, Todd Hermsen, Stacey Schindler, Mike Hermsen, Chad Wagner, Ellie Wagner, James Wagner, Mandi Wagner, Travis Wagner, Ashley Wagner, and Lindsey Rose Hermsen.
