Raymond Mooney

Raymond Mooney, age 93, of Lansing, Iowa, died Tuesday, September 5, 2006, following a brief illness at Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon. Mass of Christian Burial was held Friday, September 8, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Lansing with Father Daniel Knipper officiating. Burial was in Gethsemane Cemetery in Lansing. Thornburg Hanson Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Raymond was born in LaFayette Township in Allamakee County March 15, 1913, to Eugene and Cecelia (Kernan) Mooney.

Raymond married May Cullen in Chicago, Ill., June 3, 1939. They lived in Chicago until the mid 1940s, when they moved to Lansing and bought their farm. He loved spending time on the farm.

Raymond is survived by his wife of 67 years, Mary Mooney of Lansing; two children, Robert and Delores Mooney of Oswego, Ill., and Evelyn and George Smerud of Anchorage, Alaska; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and three siblings, Cyril and Leona Mooney of Wexford, James and Elaine Mooney of Lansing, and Mary Rita O'Regan of Waukon.

Raymond was preceded in death by his older brother, Gerald, and a younger brother, Vince.

Family members served as casketbearers.
