Mary Theresa Nagel

Mary Theresa (Foley) Nagel, age 91, of Marion passed away Saturday, September 15, 2007 at Mercy Medical Center after a short illness. Funeral services were held Tuesday, September 18 at St. Ann's-St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Harpers Ferry with Msgr. Ed Lechtenberg and Fr. Louis Trzil officiating.

Pallbearers were Stacy Pisarik, Shannon Kurth, Tom Fritz, Kim Ehlert, Steve Nagel and Mike Foley. Burial was at St. Joseph's Paint Rock Catholic Cemetery, Harpers Ferry. Hanson Funeral Home of Waukon assisted the family.

The daughter of Michael James Foley and Mary (Tracy) Foley, she was born July 14, 1916 in Harpers Ferry.

Mary graduated from the St. Joseph Mercy Hospital School of Nursing in Dubuque in 1938 as a registered nurse. During her 43 years as a nurse, she worked at Waverly Hospital, St. Francis Hospital in Waterloo, Finley Hospital in Dubuque, Hill Crest Orphanage in Dubuque, Waukon Hospital, for Dr. Clark Rominger in Waukon, and at the Postville Hospital, from where she retired after 26-1/2 years. She remained in Postville for five years following her retirement. In 1986 she moved to Marion, where she spent her last 21 years with her children. She was a member of St. Mathew's Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids.

Mary married Donald Adam Blocklinger October 1, 1940, and he passed away November 26, 1945. They parented two children, Robert and Karen. She married Mindret Nagel in 1950 and they became parents of one child, Donna Nagel.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Michael James and Mary Foley; two husbands, Donald Blocklinger and Mindret Nagel; two sisters-in-law, Mrs. Leo (Rose) Foley and Mrs. Regis (Frances) Foley; and two stepsons, Richard and Raymond Nagel.

She is survived by two brothers, Regis Foley and Leo Foley of Waukon; her children, Robert Blockinger and his wife, Linda, of Cedar Rapids, Karen Pisarik and her husband, David, of Marion, and Donna Nagel of Marion; four grandchildren, Jeff Pisarik of Fislisbäch, Switzerland, Stacy Pisarik of Marion, Kim Ehlert and her husband, Mike, of Cedar Rapids, and Shannon Kurth and her husband, Sam, of Des Moines; two great-grandchildren, Sean and Shaeleigh Ehlert; nine step-grandchildren and six step-great-grandchildren.
