Lillian Irene (Monson) Harris was born August 13, 1924 in Spring Grove, Minnesota to Martin and Anna Eliza (Forde) Monson. She passed away Monday, October 15, 2007 in the Good Samaritan Center at Postville, Iowa at the age of 83 years, 2 months and 2 days.
She was baptized September 7,1924 in the Highland Lutheran Church and confirmed in the Wilmington Lutheran Church, rural Spring Grove, Minnesota. She graduated from the Spring Grove High School in 1942.
On June 24, 1950 she was married to Leo Roger "Dutch" Harris in Austin, Minnesota. To this union three children were born, Randi, Carol and David. They made their home in Postville where she was employed in several different jobs, including the dietary department of the Good Samaritan Home.
Lillian is survived by her children, Randi Harris, Postville, Carol (Steve) Remmen, Decorah, and David (Lynn) Harris, Stoughton, Wisconsin; two granddaughters Whitney Lynn Harris (fiance Brian Brimmer) and Chelsea McGarry Harris, Stoughton, Wisconsin; three sisters Helen Babcock, Henning, Minnesota, Ruth Meyer, Grand Junction, Colorado, and Hazel (Arnold) Sater, Austin, Minnesota; three sisters-in-law, Donna Harris, Elgin, Iowa, Anna Jean Harris, Manchester, Iowa, Lula (Marvin) Kruse, Sarasota, Florida; many nephews and nieces and great nephews and nieces.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband "Dutch" in 1979, four brothers, Lawrence Elder Monson and Leonard Ernest Monson in 1921, Marvin Grant in 1997 and wife Ruby in 1984, and Alvin Martin in 1978 and wife Virginia in 2004; one sister Inga Goodno in 1987 and husband Alvin in 1985; two brothers-in-law Raymond Babcock and Sigurd Meyer. She was also preceded in death by brothers-in-law Milo, Robert "Bill", George, Virgil, Donald and Russell Harris, and sisters-in-law Gertrude Harris Hangartner Bluck, Beulah Harris Meyer Schultz, Ruth Harris Burnham and Hazel Harris Pearcy.
Lillian was a member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Postville and the VFW Auxiliary. She enjoyed cooking and baking and will be remembered for her words: " It's a new recipe and it might not be any good, so please go back for seconds, there's plenty more." Lillian especially enjoyed the visits of her granddaughters, Whitney and Chelsea. Her other interests included her dogs, cats and horses, playing cards, family trips and friends who came to visit. May God please take care of her until we see her again.
