ROBERT HYMAN

Services for Robert Hyman, 88, were held today, June 20, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Eldorado. Rev. Dennis Hugdahl will officiate. Burial will be in the St. Peter Cemetery. Casket Bearers are Randy Helgerson, Wayne Sutter, Ronald Koester, George Franks, Larry Reiling and Lyle Ney.

Robert (Bob) Hyman was born Nov. 9, 1918, in Hawkeye, to Louis Albert and Margaret (Raatz) Hyman. He graduated from Hawkeye High School in 1937, before serving his country during WWII in the U.S. Army from 1942 to 1946.

Robert married Marguerite Augusta Schatz June 5, 1947, at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Eldorado. They purchased a farm in 1954 near Eldorado and farmed there for 27 years.

They sold the farm and moved to West Union, where he lived until March of 2003, when Robert entered the Good Samaritan Home in Postville. He enjoyed fishing, farming, visiting and talking about his WWII experiences.

Robert died June 15, of age related illnesses. He is preceded in death by his wife and parents. Survivors include his two sons, John (Judy) Hyman of Postville and William Hyman of Ridgeway; two sisters, Darlene Franks and Ruth Lang, both of Hawkeye; two brothers, Everett (Beverly) Hyman of Oelwein and Eugene (Doris) Hyman of Waterloo; two grandchildren, Dawn Hyman of Des Moines and Keith (Michelle) Hyman of Green; and two great-grandchildren.
