It was the expected rather than the unexpected that happened Saturday morning, August 22, 1942, when Mrs. Frieda Welper passed peacefully away, following a lingering illness, and the spirit of immortality winged its flight to Him who gave it.
Frieda Huelzmeyer was born in Settrup, Germany, September 30, 1861, and came to the United States in the year 1880, making her home in this community. She received her education in Germany.
She was married to Herman H. Welper, December 8, 1882, at Eitzen, Minnesota, settling on a farm on Lansing Ridge where they lived for 14 years, then moved on a farm in Winnebago Township, Houston County, Minnesota, until 1918, when they retired and moved to New Albin which has since been her home.
Deceased is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Don Easton of Mabel, Minnesota; Mrs. George Fink of Viola, Wisconsin; and Mrs. Roy Wiebke of Caledonia, Minnesota; three sons, Martin of Rochester, Minnesota; and Harry and Herbert of Hesper, Iowa; 38 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
She was a fond and loving mother, a good neighbor and friend, and her many friends in this vicinity extend their sympathy to the bereaved loved ones left to mourn her loss.
She was a faithful member of St. Peter's Evangelical and Reformed Church, of the Ladies Aid Society and also of the Royal Neighbors of America, Mount Oneota Camp No. 2103. The Royal Neighbors and Ladies Aid attended the service in a body.
Funeral services were held a 2:30 o'clock at St. Peter's Evangelical and Reformed Church with the Rev. Ervin J. Florin, pastor, officiating. Burial was made in the New Albin cemetery.
Casketbearers were Elmer O. Lenz, Rudolph Jordan, Edward J. Meyer, George Pohlman, Albert Sommermeyer and Albert Fruechte.
Her husband preceded her in death in May of 1932, along with four children, 2 dying in infancy; Mrs. R.F. (Selma) Jordan on April 20, 1923; and Mrs. G.H. (Alvina) Welper on July 1, 1942.
Out of town relatives who attended the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Don Easton and family of Mabel, Minnesota; Mr. and Mrs. George Fink and family of Viola, Wisconsin; Mr. and Mrs. Roy Wiebke and family of Caledonia, Minnesota; Mr. and Mrs. Harry Welper and family and Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Welper and family of Hesper, Iowa; Harold and Clarence Jordan of St. Paul, Minnesota; and Mr. and Mrs. Harold Dehning of Decorah, Iowa.

Obit says that she was preceded in death by two infant children. One was a daughter, Clara Friederika Karoline Welper, who was born 06 September 1884, and died 18 January 1885.

Funeral services for Mrs. Frieda Welper, 80, were held this afternoon at the St. Peter's Evangelical and Reform church, with the Rev. E.J. Florin officiating. Burial was made in the New Albin Cemetery.
Mrs. Welper died Saturday morning at her home following a lingering illness. She was born in Settrup, Germany, Sept. 30, 1861; the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Huelzmeyer. She received her education in Germany. In 1880 she came to America and setled in New Albin.
Dec. 8, 1882, she was united in marriage with Herman H. Welper at Eitzen, Minn.
Mrs. Welper was a member of the St. Peter's Evangelical and Reform church, Ladies Aid and also a member of the local camp Mt. Oneota 2403 of the Royal Neighbors of America.
Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Donald (Mailinda) Easton of Mabel, Minn.; Mrs. George (Elsie) Fink of Viola, Wis.; and Mrs. Roy (Alma) Wiebke of Caledonia, Minn.; three sons, Herbert and Harry of Hesper, Ia., and Martin of Rochester, Minn.; 33 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Her husband and four children preceded her in death.
