Funeral services for Mrs. Arthur Hesse were held on December 29, 1990 at 1:30 p.m. in the Postville Presbyterian Church with Rev. Terrance Hennesy officiating. The Schutte's Funeral Service of Postville was in charge of arrangements.
Esther Minnie Hesse, daughter of Frederick John and Emelia [Amelia] Grotegut Bechtel, was born February 26, 1903. She died Wed. afternoon, Dec. 26, 1990 in the Northgate Care Center, Waukon, IA.
She attended the Frankville School. On May 18, 1922 she married Arthur Hesse. The couple had 5 children. They farmed in Ludlow Twp. and moved to Postville, where Art was employed by the railroad for many years. Esther was employed by Groth Packing Company for several years. She was a member of the Postville Presbyterian Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband Art, who died in 1982, a son Donald in 1932, 4 great grandchildren, 3 brothers: Ben, Arthur and Martin Bechtel; 4 sisters: Annie Osterholz, Emma Snitker, Clara Waterman and Alvina Brandt; two sons-in-law: Meder Peterson and John VanWey.
Surviving are 4 daughters: Irma VanWey, Decorah, IA; Mrs. LaVerne (Dolores) Wedo; Mrs. Norman (Vivian) Peterson, both of Postville; and Mrs. Edward (Jane) Boese of Wilton.
Casket bearers were: Robert VanWey, Russell Peterson, Rick Boese, Peter Peterson, Ken Kuhse and Tom Bock.
Honorary casket bearers: Donald VanWey, Larry Peterson, Randy Wedo, Vincent Peterson, Jeffery Boese and Richard VanWey.
