Funeral services for Darrin Smock were held Monday, October 14, 2002, at 11:00 A. M. at the Schutte Funeral Home in Postville. The Reverend Rusty Phillips, officiated. Inurnment will take place at a later time. Darrin Lee Smock, the son of Harold Leon Smock and Barbara Ann (nee Kohrs) Burns, was born August 27, 1965, at Independence, Iowa. He died Thursday, October 10, 2002, at his home in Postville. He was baptized and confirmed in the Community Presbyterian Church at Postville, and attended the Postville Schools. Darrin had joined the National Guard Unit at Oelwein, Iowa. Darrin was employed as a supervisor at the Agri Processors Plant in Postville for eight years and previously at Iowa Turkey Products for ten years. He is preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, John and Hattie Smock and maternal grandfather, Delbert Kohrs. Darrin is survived by his daughter, Shawna Dahl of Postville, his father, Harold Smock of Missouri, his mother, Barbara Burns and stepfather, Robert Burns of Postville, two brothers, Steven Smock and friend, Darcy Barrett, and Bradley (Gina) Smock of Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin, and his maternal grandparents, Harlin and Hilma Miller of Monona, Iowa. Also surviving are two nieces, Brittany Smock and Kelsie Smock and one nephew, Tyler Smock, six stepbrothers and stepsisters, Dennis (Dianne) Burns of Ireton, IA, Monty (Lori) Burns of Elkader, IA, Kent (Linda) Burns and Craig (Jaci) Burns, all of Postville, Jody (Tim) Pennington of Lakeville, MN, Jamey (Bobbie) Burns of St. Lucas, IA, and many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. Darrin enjoyed playing golf, hunting, the Iowa Hawkeyes, the Steelers, and spending time with friends and family. Darrin also enjoyed an occasional refresment at "Club 51".
