Services for Cloy Lawson, 84
Cloy William Lawson of Waukon died at his home Monday May 3. Funeral services were Thursday, May 6,1999 at 11 a.m. at St. John's Lutheran Church in Waukon with Rev. Lynn G. Groe officiating. Burial was in Postville Cemetery.
Cloy was born on April 2, 1915 on the rural Postville farm of his parents, Fred and Ella Caroline (Harris) Lawson. He was baptized at the United Brethren Bethel Church and later confirmed at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Postville. Cloy attended elementary at the rural Evergreen School and later Postville High School.
On August 30, 1933, he married Reva Adams. They farmed on shares and Cloy worked as a carpenter for several years before purchasing the William Lawson estate farm in rural Postville in 1947. They farmed there until moving to Waukon in 1979. Cloy was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church. He enjoyed fishing, lawn work, hunting mushrooms, playing cards, snowmobiling and anything outdoors. He was also known for his willingness to help and his fine sense of humor.
Cloy is preceded in death by his parents, a granddaughter Denise Lyons Flores, a great-granddaughter Jennifer Lee and a borther-in-law Harold Adams.
Survivors include his wife Reva; four daughters, Doris Ann Lyons of Calumet City, Illinois, Karen LaPage of Woodale, Illinois, Janeen and husband Danford Olson of Harmony, Minnesota, Janice and husband Jerry Holdiman of Evansdale; three sons, Roger and wife Daphne of Jacksonville, Florida, Clinton and wife Donna of Chino Valley, Arizona, and David and wife Kristine of Rockland, Maine; 21 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren.
Honorary casket bearers were Gordon, Leslie and Clifford Lawson and Rodney and Keith Smith. Casketbearers were Ken Krambeer, Ed Wikan, Troy Beringer, Tim and Tom Olson and David Smith.
