Mildred Herman
Mildred Lavonne Herman, 72, of rural Waukon died Saturday, May 5, 2007 at her home. Private family services were held at Martin Funeral Home, with burial at Oakland Cemetery, both in Waukon.
Mildred Lavonne (Bruns) Herman was born August 3, 1934 in Monona, the daughter of Wilbert and Greta (Mueller) Bruns. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Monona and graduated from Monona High School. Following her schooling, Mildred helped her family on their rural Decorah farm.
October 2, 1958 she married George Nelson Herman at Decorah Lutheran Church. They moved to his family's home farm in Makee Township, east of Waukon, where they have lived ever since. Mildred enjoyed spending time with her family, reading and collecting recipes. She will be remembered for her love of nature, gentle disposition and strong faith in God.
Survivors include her husband, George of Waukon; five children, Beverly (Daryl) Davis of Lake Crystal, MN, Barbara (David) Riley of Creston, Phyllis (Robert) Bittinger of Madison, WI, Daniel (Shelley Tunwall) Herman of Eau Claire, WI, and Karen (Dan) Sass of Waukon; her mother, Greta Bruns, and her brother, Virgil Bruns, both of Decorah; eight grandchildren, Evan and Bryan Davis, Jacob, Jessica and Daniel Riley, and Savannah, Sierra and Selena Herman; a sister-in-law, Lorna Fruechte of Waukon; a brother-in-law, Karl Herman of Clinton; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father, Wilbert, and an infant son, Jeffrey.
