Neil Wirkler

Funeral services for Neil Wirkler were held Wednesday, November 15, 2000, at 10:30 a.m. in Community Presbyterian Church at Postville, Iowa. The Rev. Gary Catterson officiated. Beverly Bacon was the organist. The Casket Bearers were: Jeff Krambeer, Brett Willey, Gary Gunderson, Arnold Gunderson, Roger Beermann, Dough Shaffer. The Schutte Funeral and Cremation Service of Postville was in charge of arrangements. Burial was in the Postville Cemetery.

Neil Dennis Wirkler, the son of Page Arthur Wirkler and Helen Eileen (Miller) Wirkler, was born August 22, 1950, in Community Memorial Hospital at Postville, Iowa. He passed away at his home in Franklin Townships, Allamakee County, Iowa, on Saturday, November 11, 2000. He had reached the age of 50 years, two months and 19 days.

He was graduated from Postville High School in 1968. Neil had been active in instrumental music while in school, was also active in summer band, and a member of the "East Hardin Philharmonic," which played for local events and parades. He had a St. Bernard dog named Bart, for which a road near the farm was named.

Neil farmed in the Postville and Luana areas. On September 16, 1988 he was married to Diane E. Robertson at Fountain, Minnesota. They lived on the family farm east of Postville on Hardin Drive.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Page and Helen, a sister who died in infancy, and a brother, Allyn.

Surviving are his wife, Diane, a brother, John Wirkler and his wife, Cindy, of Marshalltown, Iowa, a sister-in-law, Lavon Wirkler, a nephew, Scott Wirkler, both of Arlington, Texas, a niece, Barbara Yates, of Mansfield, Texas, his step-mother, Vera Wirkler, and two great nephews, Tyler Yates and Coby Yates.

Neil was a member of Community Presbyterian Church in Postville.
