A public memorial service will be held Saturday, April 14, 2007 at 11 a.m. at St. John's Lutheran Church in Waukon, with Rev. Lynn Groe officiating. Friends may greet the family for one hour before the service and again following the service at the church. Martin Funeral Home of Waukon is handling the arrangements.

Dorothy was born Dorothy Millicent Gulbranson October 3, 1920 in Laurens, the daughter of Ilet and Mary (Clark) Gulbranson. After graduating from Laurens High School in 1938, she received a teaching certificate from Iowa State Teacher's College in Cedar Falls. Dorothy taught English in Rembrandt for two years and at Waukon Junior High School for 12 years.

Dorothy married Alvin C. Nesheim August 1, 1942 at Scott Field, an Air Force base near Bellville, IL. They had two sons, Dennis C. Nesheim and Gregory S. Nesheim. Dorothy and Alvin moved to Waukon in 1947, where they co-owned and operated the Waukon Hatchery with Arthur and Myrtle Nesheim. She was an active member of St. John's Lutheran Church, enjoyed reading English literature and historical novels, and liked to garden, embroider and spend time with friends and family members. Her great sorrow was the death of her dearly loved sons, Dennis in 2005 from cancer and Greg in 2006 from a heart attack.

This loving woman is survived by her sister, Mary Ellen Christianson of Rembrandt; her granddaughters, Kim Nesheim of Sioux Falls, SD and Shelly Campbell and her sons James and Christofer Carlson of Nebraska City, NE; her daughter-in-law, Katherine Nesheim of Waukon; her former daughter-in-law, Deborah Johnson of Beaver Creek, MN; two step-grandsons, Wally Ellefson and Scott Vanderberg; as well as many nieces, nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Alvin, who died in 1996; her two sons, Dennis and Gregory; and a granddaughter, Amy Nesheim.
