Fred L. Baltz
Services were conducted Friday, February 8 at St. Paul Lutheran Church at 10:30 a.m. for Fred L. Baltz who died February 5 in the home of his son at Onawa, Iowa. The Rev. Norman Ullestad officiated.
Fred Louis Baltz, the son of Carl Baltz and Minnie Buelow, was born September 13, 1892 at Postville. He was baptized into St. Paul Lutheran Church, May 28, 1893 by Pastor Gass and confirmed on March 24, 1907 by Pastor Puhl. He remained a member of the St. Paul congregation.
On April 17, 1919 he was married to Lucia Schultz. They had one child.
The couple lived in Postville for about six years where Mr. Baltz was employed as a carpenter He then purchased the acreage which has been their home for the last 47 years.
His hobby was his interest in music and many people will remember him as the country fiddler of his day, a talent which he shared with a sister.
Preceding him in death were his parents, two brothers, William and August and a sister Ida, who died at the age of 18.
Survivors include his wife Lucia, his son Eugene, two grandsons, Frederick and Everett, and several nieces and nephews.
Burial was in the Postville Cemetery.
Submitter notes: In Fred's brother William's obituary their mothers maiden name is spelled Boelow. Which is correct? I don't know so I included both spellings for researchers.
