MRS. JOHN (Dolores B.) SCHOLTES
Dolores B. Scholtes, 84, who was born in Postville and lived her early life in Iowa, died March 12 at the Fairbanks Pioneer Home in Fairbanks, Alaska. She had suffered a stroke.

Memorial services were conducted Thursday at Fairbanks Lutheran Church. Memorial contributions may be made to that church at 1012 Cowles, Fairbanks, Alaska 99701. Graveside services are to be conducted Monday at 10:30 a.m. at Memorial Park Cemetery, Sioux City.

She received degrees in education and nursing and was a school nurse and a visiting nurse until she married John Scholtes in 1934. After he died in 1952, she returned to nursing. She was director of nursing at Lutheran Hospital of Sioux City and was a nurse at St. Louis Hospital in Minneapolis.

In 1963 she returned to Iowa. The following year she drove to Seward, Alaska with her youngest daughter to work in the city's General Hospital. She went to Fairbanks in 1965, where she worked as a school nurse until 1970. Then she worked as a part-time bookkeeper at Northland Wood Products until Feb. 2 of this year.

She was selected Alaska's Mother of the Year in 1975. She is survived by her 3 daughters, Joan Rulon of Decorah and Dorothy Rasmussen and Dale Flodin of Fairbanks, their spouses and by 8 grandchildren.

Other survivors include a brother, Harlan Thoma of Des Moines and Sun City, AZ, a stepson, James Scholtes and his wife, and 3 children and 5 grandchildren of theirs.
