Funeral services for Emma Lawson were held Thursday, Feb. 8, 1990, at 10:30 a.m. in St. Paul Lutheran Church at Postville. The Rev. Julius L. Peterson officiated. The Schutte Funeral Service of Postville was in charge of arrangements. Burial was in the Postville Cemetery.

Emma Bertha Lawson, daughter of Rudolph and Anna (Boettcher) Krege, was born Dec. 11, 1916 in Brown County, near Columbia, South Dakota. She died Saturday afternoon, Feb. 3, 1990 in the Good Samaritan Center at Postville, Iowa.

She was baptized Feb. 7, 1917 and confirmed May 31 both in St. John's Lutheran Church, Columbia, SD. Emma worked at several jobs in and near Columbia. She came to Iowa and worked in a cafe in Cresco for a short time. She then was employed as a Jewel Tea Route driver in the northeast Iowa area.

On September 21, 1944 she was married to Leslie Lawson in St. John's Lutheran Church, Columbia, SD. They had one daughter, Beverly Jean. They lived in Postville until 1960. They then moved to their present farm south of town.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister, Lena Olson and three brothers, Arthur, Adolph, and August, all of South Dakota.

Surviving are her husband, Leslie, a daughter, Beverly and 3 granddaughters, Christina, Brandi, and Alysia, all of Apple Valley, CA, two brothers, Elmer Krege of Granger, MN and Albert Krege of Columbia, SD.

Emma was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church and a very active member of the Women of the ELCA. She enjoyed bowling and had bowled on a league for the past 35 years until she became ill. She had been inducted into the Postville Women's Bowling Hall of Fame in 1988.

Pallbearers were: James Schulte, Richard Helgerson, Jack Whitehead, James Overland, Delbert Suckow, Ed Klenk.
