After a period of poor health extending over several months, during which time he bore his sufferings with Christian fortitude, Lewis Niclai, local hardware dealer, passed to his eternal reward at the Lutheran Hospital, La Crosse, Wisconsin, Thursday, February 28, 1929, aged 70 years, 4 months and 8 days.

Mr. Niclai was born in Roxbury, Wisconsin, October 20, 1858, where he lived with his parents until 1862, when the family moved to Arcadia, Wisconsin, where he grew to manhood.

On December 20, 1882, he was united in marriage with Miss Sarah Barlow, who preceded him in death in 1914.

The deceased was a farmer, and for a few years conducted a hardware store at Arcadia. In 1915, with his family, he moved to Winona, Minnesota, where they resided until 1919 when they moved to New Albin, Iowa, and he bought out the Petrehn Hardware Store, which business he conducted until the time of his death.

He joined the Methodist church in 1920, and was an exemplary Christian brother and father and made friends of all his acquaintances, who mourn his loss and extend sympathy to the sorrowing children. To a deep religious disposition he united a genial nature and was never more happy than when contributing to the happiness of others.

Surviving him are two daughters, Miss Auria and Mrs. F.H. (Nettie) Robinson of New Albin; one son, Oscar of Los Angeles, California; three sisters and four brothers, Mrs. John Scholdin of Arcadia, Wisconsin; Mrs. Robert Barlow of Harmony, Minnesota; Mrs. C.A. Kloety of Whitehall, Wisconsin; William Niclai of Jamestown, North Dakota; Peter Niclai of St. Paul, Minnesota; Joseph Niclai of Spokane, Washington; and Fred Niclai of Fergus Falls, Minnesota; and a host of other relatives and friends.

The remains were taken from La Crosse to Arcadia, at which place the largely attended funeral was held Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the Methodist church, Rev. Heapin officiating. Interment was made in the cemetery at that place.
