Services for Ethel Walters

Funeral services for Ethel Walters were held Thursday, October 8, 1992 at 10:30 a.m. in Community Presbyterian Church at Postville, Iowa. The Rev. Terrance P. Hennesy officiated. Nicole Dundee, a granddaughter, sang the solos, accompanied by Beverly Bacon, organist. The Schutte Funeral Service of Postville was in charge of arrangements. Burial was in the Rossville Cemetery, rural Waukon. Casket bearers were grandchildren Donald Walters, Dale Walters, Janet Schlais, Gary Dundee, Cindy Stahl, Peggy Pugmire, Diane Lee, Maria Hanson, Monte Dundee, and Audrey Meyer.

Ethel Cora Walters, daughter of James Eston and Amanda Jane (Denning) Rush, was born August 20, 1901 at Rossville, Iowa. She passed away Monday, October 5, 1992 in the Good Samaritan Center at Postville, Iowa. She had reached the age of 91 years, 1 month and 15 days.

Ethel attended the Bear Hollow School near her home. On December 21, 1921 she was married to Cloyd Ward Walters at Waukon, Iowa, by the Rev. W. O. Roten, the Baptist minister. To this union four children were born. They farmed south of Rossville from 1921 until 1937. Cloy died on August 14, 1936 and in 1938 Ethel moved her family to Rossville where they lived until moving to Postville in 1973. Ethel was employed by the Groth Packing Company for several years. She became a resident of the Good Samaritan Center on February 8, 1990.

Ethel loved to garden, and she could usually be found outside among her various plantings.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Cloy; a daughter, Margie, who died April 20, 1931; a great granddaughter, Kimberly Ann Walters; 5 brothers, Ray, Leslie, Jesse, Carrol and Dewey Rush; and 3 sisters, Besse Rush, Vernie Stahl and Blanche Thornton.

Surviving are two sons, Leon Walters and his wife, Dorothy of Cedar Rapids, IA and Kenneth Walters and his wife, Doris of LaCrosse, WI; a daughter, Eva and her husband, Curtis Dundee of Postville; 10 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren, Brian Walters, Lisa Pugmire, Daniel and Dana Walters, Kari and Kyle Schlais, Nicole, Jason, Lori and Jennifer Dundee, Stacy and John Dundee, Jessica Dundee, Sarah Stahl and Bradley Stahl; a great great grandson, Corey Walters; a sister-in-law, Zatha Winger of Maquoketa, IA, and several nieces and nephews.
