Ann Thomson

Ann L. Thomson, 85, of Waukon died Saturday, March 10, 2007 at Good Samaritan Center in Waukon. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, March 14 at 11 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church in Waukon, with Rev. Larry Olson officiating. Burial will be held in Oakland Cemetery in Waukon. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Martin Funeral Home in Waukon.

Ann Laurayne Guider Thomson was born July 4, 1921 in rural Lansing, the daughter of Matt and Margaret (Thornton) Guider. She graduated from Immaculate Conception High School in Lansing in 1938. After Ann graduated from high school she went to work for the telephone company and then Interstate Power both in Lansing.

She married Lester "Bill" Thomson at the Baptist Parsonage in Waukon November 21, 1942. They farmed together in Center Township and Paint Creek Township, both in the rural Waterville area, for several years before moving to Waukon in 1966. She worked in the West Elementary School library from 1965 until 1980, when she retired.

Ann was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Waukon, where she served as an Elder and was a circle leader for a number of years. Ann received a lifetime membership to the Presbyterian Women. She was also a member of Thursday Club, P.E.O., Waukon Golf and Country Club and various card clubs. Ann was a volunteer at Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon. She enjoyed golfing, playing cards, reading, needlework and traveling. Ann and Bill wintered in Arizona for several years. Her most favorite times were spent with family and friends.

Survivors include her husband, Lester "Bill" of Waukon; her children, Thomas (Lynn) of Waukon, Carolyn (Gene Maurer) Thomson of Lansing, Kathy (Loren) Taylor of Quincy, IL, Dr. Elizabeth (Dr. James Hanson) Thomson of Bethesda, MD and Kris (Tom Tyree) Thomson of Rockford, IL; five grandchildren, Lori (Todd) Meyer, Jason (Libby) Taylor, Jill and Mark Taylor and Jennifer Hanson; three great-grandchildren, Chelsey and Courtney Meyer and Colin Taylor; three step-grandchildren, Catherine Balthazar, John and David Hanson; three sisters, Catherine Betthauser of Stillwater, MN, and Marge Bigelow and Genevieve Wild, both of Lansing. She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Mary Lucille Brazell.

Honorary casketbearers are all who have touched Ann's life. Casketbearers are Lori, Todd, Chelsey and Courtney Meyer, Jason, Libby, Jill, Mark and Colin Taylor, and Jennifer Hanson.
