GADDIS BROOKS RITES ARE HELD

Gaddis A. Brooks, 87, passed away August 2 in the Jordan Nursing Home at Nashua following a period of failing health.

The son of Sarah Jane Schuff and Joseph Brooks, Mr. Brooks was born January 9, 1871 at Watson, northeast of Monona in Clayton county.

His entire lifetime was spent in this vicinity. He was married to Elizabeth Wintrick on January 30, 1900 and to this union two daughters were born, Ida Belle, Mrs. Laurence Hofer of Postville, and Bess, Mrs. Wilson Lange of Decorah.

Mr. Brooks had been a farmer, rural mail carrier, and worked for the railroad in freight and express delivery.

He was a member of the United Brethren Church at Forest Mills. He was a member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows for 65 years.

Survivors include the two daughters, Mrs. Hofer and Mrs. Lange; four grandchildren, Nancy Lange of Davenport, James Lange of Denver, Colorado, Susan and Kevin Lange of Decorah; many nieces and nephews in Waukon, Decorah, McGregor, Lansing, Winthrop, Gaylord, and Gibbon, Minnesota and Youngstown, Pennsylvania.

Preceding him in death were his wife who passed away on February 18 of this year; his parents; three brothers, Joseph, William, and John; two sisters, Ella and Anna; and two grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Monday afternoon, 2:00 o'clock, at the Community Presbyterian Church in Postville with the Rev. Reynolds of the Frankville Presbyterian Church in charge. Burial was in Postville cemetery. Graveside services were in charge of the Odd Fellows.
