Elizabeth M. Burroughs, age 82 of Lansing, died Tuesday, September 10, 2002, at her home in Center Township, Allamakee County. Elizabeth was born in Allamakee County on December 14, 1919, to John and Mary Elizabeth (Hammel) Becker. She graduated from the Immaculate Conception grade school in Lansing. Elizabeth married Garland J. Burroughs on November 3, 1937, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. In 1948, they moved from their farm in Silver Creek to their farm in Center Township, where she helped her husband with the farm. In 1970, she began work at Northern Engraving, retiring from their quality control department in 1990. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, and her grandchildren. Years ago, she and her husband Garland were active, going to dances and playing cards with their friends. Her home was always open to friends and family. Elizabeth is survived by four children, Gale "Bugs" Burroughs, Waukon, Gene Burroughs, Lansing, Connie (Jim) Elde, La Crosse, and Ray (Margie) Burroughs, Waukon; eleven grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and two siblings, Joe Becker, Lansing, and Ursula Quanrude, Waukon. Elizabeth was preceded in death by her spouse, Garland, on March 21, 1993, and also by six siblings, Lucile Becker, Ann Zoll, Rose Ellen Becker, Teresa McCabe, George Becker, and Allie Becker. Funeral Services were held 1:00 p.m. Saturday, September 14, 2002, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Lansing with Msgr. Funke officiating. Burial was in Gethsemane, Lansing. Thornburg Hanson Funeral Home in Lansing assisted with arrangements.
Casketbearers were Dave Becker, Kenny Becker, David Burroughs, Darren Burroughs, Ron Quanrude, and Jerry McCabe. Honorary casketbearers were Stephanie Elde, Elizabeth Koschmann, Debbie Wolfe, Danny Burroughs, Scott Demler, Tammy Schindler, Jeff Demler, Amy Burroughs, and Jesse Burroughs.
