Well Known Lansing Lady Passes Away

The death of Miss Emma Hirth took place at the Luthern Hospital, LaCrosse, early last Wednesday evening from a heart ailment following a several years illness. Her only brother, Louis, with whom she made her home in Lansing had spent the day with her and was enroute home on the bus when it occurred, so the sad news was a great shock to him and relatives and friends.

She was born Dec. 1st, 1874, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Louis Hirth in French Creek township where she was educated in the rural schools and spent the greater portion of her life. Following the death of her parents and three sisters, two in infancy she managed the farm home until 31 years ago when she moved to town with her brothers to make her home in 1914. She was a member of the Methodist Church, a good neighbor and friend possessed with those traits of charcter which made her beloved by all especially little children of whom she was very fond and always greeted with favor. Left to mourn her passing are her brother Louis and only sister, Mrs. Joe Sandry, the latter unable to attend the services because of illness, and a number of nieces and nephews. Others of the family preceding her in death were her brothers, John in 1939, and Will in 1940.

The funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at the Burke Funeral Home at 2 o'clock conducted by Rev. Calvin Willemssen, of the Federated Church. Burial was in the family lot in the Mays Prairie Cemetery and carrying her mortal remains to it's final resting place were John and Sam Decker, Charles Hirth, John Schafer, Freeman Bauman and Alfred Pohlman. Among the out of town relatives and friends attending the services were Mrs. Otto Simonson, Fort Dodge, Mr. and Mrs. Emil Zeitler and son Dallas, of Dover, Minn., Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Feuerhelm and Mrs. Antoinette Sires, Oskaloosa, the Phillip Bieber Family, Strawberry Point, Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Shogren and daughter, Arlene, Mrs. Jens Erickson and son Joseph, of the Rossville vicinity.
