Well Known Retired Farmer Passes Away

William Hirth Succumbs at Sanitarium In Dubuque

The sudden passing of William Hirth of Lansing was a shock to both his family and friends, He was born March 28, 1869, in French Creek township, a third son of Louis and Katherine Zeitler Hirth, early pioneer settlers, and passed away Wednesday noon, July 31st, of a paralytic stroke at St. Joseph's Sanitarium, Dubuque, after a couple hours illness. Deceased was stricken with a stomach and nervous condition nearly twelve weeks ago and although improvement was shown at different times, death took place as above stated.

Mr. Hirth received his education in the rural schools and until his retirement and moving to town with is sister Emma and brother Louis 26 years ago, was actively engaged in farming. Being an industrious and efficient worker he prospered and retired at the early age of 45, becoming one of Lansing's most respected and highly esteemed citizens. Mr. Hirth was a kind neighbor and friend who was generous and accommodating at all times; and will be sadly missed at the home and by his close associates with whom he often visited. He was alife long member of the Methodist church.

Left to mourn the passing of this fine gentleman are his two sisters, Mrs. Joseph Sandry and Miss Emma, and one brother, Louis all of Lansing, besides anumber of nieces and nephews, and a host of friends.

Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Federated church with Rev. Lloyd Bartholomew conductimg the services and Rev. L.T. Krebs, visiting pastor, preaching an eloquent and consoling sermon.

Burial was in the family lot in the Mays Prairie cemetery beside loved ones gone before, with the following life-time friends of deceased acting as casket- bearers; John and Sam Decker, Ferd Gruber, Fred Schafer, Will Kehr and Alfred Pohlman.

Out of town relatives attending the services were: Mrs. Otto Simonson, son Lansing and wife, Fort Dodge; Mr. Herman Zietler, Sauk City, Wis.; Mr. and Mrs. Emil Zeitler, Dover, Minn., who returned after the services, the others remaing until Sunday afternoon.

Peace to the ashes of the Journal's long time friend.
