Anna Althouse

A funeral service for Anna B. Althouse was conducted Thursday, November 15 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Postville. Mrs. Atlhouse died November 13 at Community Memorial Hospital. The Rev. Norman Ullestad officiated. Burial was in the Postville Cemetery.

Anna Bertha Wilhelmine Linderbaum Althouse, the daughter of Ludwig Linderbaum and Caroline Martens, was born January 19, 1879 in Klein Bunzow, Buggou, Germany. She was baptized on January 24, 1879 (sic) in St. Paul Lutheran Church, Postville (sic).

Anna came to America at the age of four, coming across the Atlantic in a sailboat. She was confirmed in St. Paul Lutheran Church, Postville, March 26, 1893 by the Rev. John Gass.

On May 26, 1896, she was married to Henry Althouse and they became parents of six children. Mrs. Althouse lived on the farm until February, 1971, when she became a resident of the Good Samaritan Center.

Preceding her in death were her parents, six sisters, Edith, Bertha, Frieda and Caroline Linderbaum, Minnie (Mrs. Will Martens) and Sophia (Mrs. Will Geiger); two brothers, Charley and Frank Linderbaum; three children, William, Caroline and Ludwig and her husband, who died November 16, 1954.

Surviving are two sons, Henry and Carl; one daughter, Mrs. Henry Benjegerdes; two sisters, Mrs. Emma Manja and Mrs. Louis Lenth, seven grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren.
