Claude C. Grahlman, 79, of Waukon, died Tues., Jan. 1, 2002 at Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon. Funeral Services were held Fri., Jan. 4, at 11 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church in Waukon with Rev. Larry Olson officiating. Burial with graveside military rites were in Oakland Cemetery, Waukon. Friends called from 4 to 8 p.m. Thurs. at Martin Funeral Home in Waukon.
Claude Clinton Grahlman was born on Oct. 10, 1922 in Sumner, the son of Emil and Lena (Reisner) Grahlman. He was baptized and confirmed at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Sumner and attended rural schools in the Sumner area. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII from 1943 to 1946, and after the service he moved to Cedar Falls.
On April 4, 1947 he married Genevieve Sires. After they were married they moved to Tulane, SD where he farmed from 1949 to 1953 before moving to Waukon, where he was a semi driver for several area trucking companies before retiring in the late 1970's. Claude was a member of First Presbyterian Church and the American Legion. He enjoyed hunting and fishing.
He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife Genevieve and a brother, Clayton.
Survivors include a son, Bob (Barb) of Postville, a daughter, Susan (Donald) Somermeyer of New Albin, four grandchildren, and two sisters, Velma (Robert) Ferson of Waterloo, and Dorothy Schlie of Pinetop, AZ; and a sister-in-law, Emerald Grahlman of Waukon.
Honorary casketbearers were Wayne and Charles "Tubby" Howe, Leon Hansmeier, Jerry Sommer, and Jim Grahlman. Casketbearers were Brian Grahlman, Jon and Eric Somermeyer, David Kurth, Joel and Jim Sires.
