David Schroeder
David Wayne Schroeder, 52, passed away peacefully Friday, Feb. 9, 2007 in Des Moines from complications of a stroke. His body was cremated. A memorial will be held at St. John's Lutheran Church in Waukon Sunday, March 11 at 2 p.m. Another celebration of David's life will be held later this summer in Des Moines at one of his favorite outside locations.
David was born in Postville May 17, 1955 to Jackie and Allard Nyberg, and baptized June 18. He later moved to California. He graduated from Los Alamitos High School in California and Merced College with a BA degree and worked for the Merced Sheriff Department, as well as the Police Department. He started the Merced Canine Unit training German Police dogs. He excelled in sports in high school and college.
He married Jennifer Sessa in April 1986. They later moved to the Des Moines area. David and Jennifer did all things together. They loved to hunt, golf, take long walks with his dogs, and going to Indianapolis for a special date to see the Colts play.
David is survived by his loving wife Jennifer; his father Keith Schroeder of Waukon; his daughter Amanda Stetler of Fresno, CA; his brother Alan (Kathryn) Nyberg of McGregor; his sisters Cherie Ash (friend Bruce Hinkel) of Waukon and Kathy (Jon) Cox of Des Moines; his grandmother Clara Schroeder of Waukon; aunts and uncles Delores Troy of Bonita Springs, FL, Faye and Gilbert Gluck of Waukon, Ken and Sandy Schroeder of Des Moines, Wayne and Twila Schroeder of North Liberty, and George and Marion Frederick of Colorado; and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. Also surviving are his very special hunting dogs Bonnie and Schugart, and cats Toonces, Cal and Moochie.
He was preceded in death by his mother Jackie Schroeder; and his nephew Jamey Ash of Postville.
David touched so many lives with his wonderful sense of humor and charm. His family would like to express appreciation to all of those special people for their love and support during this difficult time. As David always said, "Tell the ones you love that you love them today, for tomorrow they may be too far away"!
God bless all our American heroes.
