Alice Connor went to be with our Lord Saturday, January 7, 2006, at her home in Waukon, surrounded by her loving family. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, January 11 at 11 a.m. at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Waukon, with Fr. Joseph Schneider and Rev. Msgr. Ed Lechtenberg officiating. Interment will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Waukon. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Martin Funeral Home in Waukon.
Alice was born July 17, 1920, to James and Margaret (Donovan) Howes on their Hanover Township farm. She was baptized at St. Mary’s Hanover Catholic Church and confirmed at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church. Alice attended St. Patrick’s Elementary School and graduated from Waukon High School.
She married George Thomas Connor August 24, 1942, at St. Patrick’s. In addition to being a homemaker, she worked for several years at Schultz Brothers Variety Store. At the time of her retirement, she worked for the City of Waukon.
Alice was an active member of St. Patrick’s parish and the Little Flower Study Club. She volunteered at St. Vincent de Paul, bingo night at St. Pat’s, cared for shut-ins, made rosaries for the missions, and prayed the Rosary with residents at the Good Samaritan Center.
Survivors include her six children, Kay Ollendick of Dickeyville, Wis., Dan Connor of Cedar Rapids, Mary (Steve) Schulte of Davenport, Jim (Gail) Connor of Onalaska, Wis., Rick (Traci) Connor of Hampton, Ill., and Ellen (Stan) Herman of Center Point, Iowa; 12 grandchildren, Tim (Wendy), Todd, and Scott (Julie) Ollendick, Kerri (Bob) Leuth, Chris (Jen) Schulte, Jill (Stacy) Swim, Doug and Kate Connor, Amanda and Adam Herman, and Colin and Maggie Connor; and eight great-grandchildren, Jonas, Corey, Chad, Craig, Brady, Bailey, Connor, and Karson.
She is pre-deceased by her parents; her husband George, who died in 1989; a granddaughter, Sarah Connor; a son-in-law, Don Ollendick; two sisters, Helen Elliott and Lucille Dayton Link; and two brothers, Cyril and Don Howes.
