INJURIES FATAL TO WAUKON MAN
J. Albert Long Dies in La Crosse Hospital

J. Albert Long, 63, of Waukon, injured in a highway accident last Tuesday, died at St. Francis hospital in La Crosse, Wisc., Friday afternoon (01 Sep 1944) about 3 o'clock.

Long was hurt when he was hit by a truck on Highway 51 between Postville and Waukon as he was working on the road. He had been employed by the state highway commission for more than 20 years.

Long's body will be returned to Waukon for burial, but funeral arrangements are incomplete.

He is survived by his wife, the former Florence Deeney; one son, William Long of the U.S. Army serving overseas; four daughters, Mrs. Jasper Profita of Chicago, Ill.; Mrs. Arnold Olson; and the Misses Ella Mae and Lois Long of Waukon; two sisters, Mrs. Joe Reeder of Waukon; and Mrs. Gus Mohwinkle of Dorchester; one brother, Wallace Long of Elizabeth, Ill.; and two grandchildren.

Waukon, Ia. - funeral services for J. Albert Long, who died Friday afternoon as the result of injuries suffered when he was struck by a truck while working on the highway between Waukon and Postville Tuesday, were held at St. Patrick's church here Monday morning. The Rev. Ernest J. McDonald, pastor, celebrated the requiem mass. Burial was in Mt. Olivet cemetery.

Casket bearers were Dan Regan, Frank Helm, Walter Stone, Dee Hastings, Will Duval, and Ed Haas. Members of the state highway commission, of which Mr. Long was a member for more than 20 years, attended the funeral in a body.
