Walter Krueger accidentally Killed Monday Afternoon

The community was shocked and grieved to hear, Monday afternoon, that Walter Krueger, living one-half mile west of town, was (accidently) shot through the heart and instantly killed by the discharge of a .410 gauge shotgun while getting out of his car. He had just returned from town and evidently was taking the gun out of the car, in the garage. The report of the gun was heard by his wife who was in the house at the time. She went to investigate and found him dead with a bullet wound in his chest in the region of his heart. She immediately summoned some electric linemen working nearby, who in turn notified the city marshal and doctor, who went to the scene.
An inquest was held Tuesday p.m. at 2 o'clock at Waukon, Iowa, under Coroner Charles Boyden, and a verdict of accidental death was returned by the members of the jury who were Thomas Waters, Elmer Olloff and Alan Crowley.
Walter Krueger was born on a farm in Winnebago township, Houston county on June 30, 1888, the son of Mr. and Mrs Henry Krueger, Sr. He was educated in the rural schools of his home vicinity and as a young man became engaged in farming.
On December 1, 1914, he was married to Miss Lydia King, at St.John's church, Wheatland, by Rev. K. Bizer, and to this union one daughter was born.
Previous to moving to his present farm he had rented the Bridget Kelly farm on the Iowa River for 21 years. Early this year he purchased the former Frank Kelly farm, one-half mile west of town and began the building of a new house, the family moving in about two months ago.
Besides his beloved wife and daughter, Evelyn, he leaves to mourn his aged mother, Mrs. Henry Krueger, Sr. of New Albin; two sisters, Mrs. Walter Fetketter of French Creek township and Mrs. Norman Lueck of Dakota, Minn..; three brothers, Alfred and Henry of this vicinity and George of near Caledonia, Minn., besides many other relatives and friends.
Funeral arrangements have not been made at this time.
