Ricky Lee Stahl, 18, of Lansing, was killed in a hunting accident Sunday evening.

According to a report from the Allamakee County Sheriff's Department, Stahl was hunting with two friends just north of Lansing on a bluff overlooking the Mississippi River about 6:30 p.m.

The three were on a ridge overlooking the river when the friends heard a shot and ob­served the victim lying on the ground with a single gunshot wound.

Ricky was pronouned dead near the scene by county medi­cal examiner Dr. Dale Wicklund.

The incident is considered to be a self-inflicted accidental wound, Sheriff's Department personnel said.

Tragically the .22-caliber Magnum rifle that Ricky was using was the same weapon that killed his parents, Rick and Jayne Stahl three years ago.

The Allamakee County Sheriff's Department and the Iowa DNR responded to the call, assisted by Lansing Police and Fire Departments and the Lansing ambulance.

Ricky was a senior at Kee High School in Lansing.
