Virginia "Gina" Sires, 80, of New Albin, died Tuesday, Nov. 24, 1998, at Thornton Manor Care Center in Lansing following a brief illness.

Virginia Gladys Sires was born on Oct. 11, 1918 in Tulare, S.D., the daughter of Martin and Alvina (Middendorf) Roeber. She attended rural elementary school and graduated from Tulare High School.

On Sept. 27, 1940 she married Forrest "Frosty" Sires in Waverly, IA. The couple lived in New Albin until 1943 when they moved to South Dakota. They remained there until returning to New Albin in 1970 where they have resided ever since. She was a member of Zion Evangelical Church in Brownsville, MN.

Gina loved her family very much and spent her life making a comfortable home for her hus­band and children, as well as a welcorne place for her relatives and friends. She was an excellent cook and baker, and was known for her homemade bread and noodles. She also enjoyed gardening, sewing, weaving rugs and embroidery.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Survivors include her husband, Frosty of New Albin; a son, Barry and Susan Sires of Tulare, S.D.; two daughters, Karen Lee of New Albin, and Lanette and James Herrmann of Onalaska, Wis.; five grandchildren, Dustin Herrmann, Errin Wilker, Heather Lenz, Stephanie Ahles and Shauna Stanfiel; and four great-grand­children, Aubrie and Ashton Lenz, Bretton Wilker and Shelby Stanfiel.

Services were held Friday, Nov. 27, 1998 at 1 p.m. at Martin Funeral Home in Waukon. Rev. Phil Williams officiated. Burial was in the New Albin City cemetery. Casket bearers were Bradley Wilker, Christopher Ahles, Paul Lenz, James Herrmann, Dustin Herrmann and Robert Stanfiel.

Martin Funeral Home, Waukon, was in charge of the arrangements.
