Joseph Leslie Duffy, 84, of 356 24th St. NW, died Wednesday, Jan. 17, 2007, in his home following a short illness. Services, with military honors: 10 a.m. Saturday, St. Patrick Catholic Church, by the Rev. Steven Rosonke. Burial: St. Joseph Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today and 8:30 to 9:15 a.m. Saturday at Teahen Funeral Home, with a vigil service at 5 tonight.
Military honors provided by Hanford American Legion Post 5.
Survivors include his four daughters, Mary Duffy, Annie Holland, Corinne Hanson and Christine Klith, all of Cedar Rapids; two sons, Jayme and Tim, both of
Cedar Rapids; and one sister, Veronica (Howard) Ingles of Stockton, Calif.
Also surviving are three sons-in-law, Douglas Holland, Jim Hanson and Herman Klith; a daughter-in-law, Susan Duffy; nine grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Lucille, on Oct. 26, 1999; a granddaughter, Sarah Bowers; four brothers; and three sisters.
Joseph was born March 28, 1922, in Dorchester, to William and Loretta
Henry Duffy, and married Lucille Melichar on June 16, 1951, in Cedar Rapids. He worked as a machinist for FMC for 34 years, retiring in 1984. Joseph served overseas in the United States Army during World War II. He was a member of the American Legion and St.Patrick Catholic Church. Joseph loved to travel, play cards, fix things around his home and work on vehicles.
Joseph was a very gentle, humble man who was very devoted to his family
and always put them first. He will be greatly missed.
Instead of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family.
