The remains of Mrs. Ed H. Howes formerly of French Creek township were brought to Lansing from North Dakota Monday, for interment in the Mt. Hope cemetery in Union City township. She had died at a hospital while undergoing treatment for a complication of ailments. Deceased was a sister of Frank Gerkey of this city, and was 63 years of age, Germany having been her birthplace.

Minnie D.C. Howes, wife of Edw. H. Howes, and mother of Mrs. Wm. Rader, Harry F., Martin L., Alfred V., Otto O., and James R. Howes, all living near Hampden, N. Dak, died at Devils Lake, N.D., at 10 a.m. Dec. 12, 1919, at Mercy Hospital, of a complication of diseases after a long illness.
Mrs. Howes also leaves sixteen grandchildren, four brothers and one sister; Frank Gerkey, Waukon, Iowa; Emil, Cottonwood, Mont., August, Alberta, Canada; Louis, LaCrosse, Wis.; and Mrs. H.O. Kehr, Lansing, Iowa.
Deceased was born Feb. 2, 1857, in Gristfold, Germany, coming to America in 1862, living at Lansing, Iowa, until 1865, when the family moved to French Creek township, Allamakee Co., Iowa.
On April 2, 1882, Minnie Gerkey was married to Edward H. Howes at Mt. Hope church, and resided on a farm in French Creek township until January, 1903, when the family moved to Hampden, N.D., which has been her home until the time of her death.
Mrs. Howes' age was 62 yrs. 10 mos. and 10 days at the time of her death, and she was the mother of nine children, seven of whom are living. One son, Frank Frederick, died June 3, 1914, and a daughter, Phoebe Jane, died Oct. 25, 1918.
Funeral from New Albin to Mt. Hope church Monday, Dec. 15, at 3 p.m., Rev. J.M. Regan officiating.
Mr. Howes, who accompanied the remains of his wife, returned yesterday to his home, his daughter, Mrs. Wm. Rader, is also in hospital for treatment. This is the fourth member of Mr. Howes' family whom he has been called upon to bring back for burial in five years, to the Mr. Hope church, of which they have all been members.
