Friends may call from 3 to 6 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 26 at Martin Funeral Home in Waukon.

Harold Herbert Borcherding was born June 25, 1915 in rural Guttenberg, the son of Frederick and Milda (Lundt) Borcherding. He was baptized and confirmed at St. John's Lutheran Church in Guttenberg and attended rural Clayton County Schools. January 21, 1942 he married Dorothy Irene Kickbush at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Dubuque. Harold and Dorothy would have soon celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary.

Harold spent his working life as a farmer. He farmed on his own at several places in Clayton County. After moving to Waukon in the late 1960s, he continued to be active in farming by helping on other people's farms doing work with livestock and building many fences. Harold loved the rural life and still enjoyed taking rides in the countryside.

Harold served two terms on the Clayton County Extension Council, was a 4-H Leader for 11 years and was a current member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Waukon. He was an easy going and patient man with a good sense of humor who always seemed happy. Visiting with friends and being with his family were some of his favorite times and he could always be counted on to share a story.

Survivors include his wife Dorothy of Waukon; two children, Lyle (Judith) Borcherding of Johnstown, PA and Lorna (Bernard) Kolsrud of Waukon; four grandchildren, Shann Borcherding of KY, Steve Borcherding of Anchorage, AK, Terry Kolsrud of Waukon and Stacey Kolsrud of San Francisco, CA; a great-grandson, Steven Borcherding Jr.; and several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Delbert and Herbert; and a sister, Gertrude Thiese.

Casketbearers are Terry and Stacey Kolsrud and Steve, Bernell, Harvey and Dennis Borcherding.
