Howard V. Kolsrud

Howard V. Kolsrud, 73, died Saturday, Dec. 23, 2006 at Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon. Funeral services were held Saturday, Dec. 30 at the Martin Funeral Home with Pastor Ken Kimball officiating. Burial with graveside military rites was held at Old East Paint Creek Cemetery, rural Waterville. Casketbearers were Arlyn Fossum, Bill Roe, Sr., Donald Topel, Richard Hansmeier, Robert Kolsrud and Lloyd Johanningmeier.

Howard Verdell Kolsrud was born February 19, 1933, in rural Waterville, the son of Melvin and Alma (Smedsrud) Kolsrud. He was baptized and confirmed at Old East Paint Creek Lutheran Church in rural Waterville and attended Waterville School. He married Deloris Malli June 6, 1954 at First Lutheran Church in Decorah.

Howard served in the U.S. Army from 1956 to 1958 and was stationed in California and Germany. He farmed in the Waterville area for many years and worked for the following businesses in Waukon: Farm Service, Quandahl Hardware and Peterson Hardware. Howard also had his own business where he did plumbing and heating and electrical work. He was a skilled self-taught craftsman and was a lifetime member of Old East Paint Creek Lutheran Church.

Survivors include his children, Roger (Donna) of Waukon, Dorothy (Bernell) Diersen of Lansing, and Lyle of Decorah; eight grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Leland Ray and Wayne Steven; one grandson, Thomas Larkin; a brother, Merlynn; and two sisters, Harriet Sanderson and Loraine Kolsrud.
