AUGUST HELD 1890-1953

Ludlow Farmer Passes Away; Rites Saturday

Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon from the Schutte Funeral Home to the Bethlehem Presbyterian Church in Ludlow for August Held, 62, who passed away May 20 at the Lutheran Hospital in LaCrosse following an illness of several years.

Burial was made in Bethlehem Church cemetery. Mr. Held had been a resident of Ludlow township his entire life.

August Held was born to the late Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Held on August 8, 1890 in Ludlow township, Postville, and passed away at the Lutheran Hospital, LaCrosse, Wisconsin on Wednesday afternoon, May 20, 1953 at the age of 62 years, nine months and 12 days.

Mr. Held had been in poor health for more than three years, hospitalized occasionally, and several weeks ago when he became seriously ill, went to the hospital again, failed rapidly and passed away.

As an infant he was baptized in the Zalmona Presbyterian Church. He received his catechism instruction, was confirmed and united with the Bethlehem Presbyterian Church on April 9, 1905.

Mr. Held grew to manhood in Ludlow township and on August 13, 1913 he was united in marriage to Esther C. Shafer. To this union one son was born, Clifford, of Ludlow township.

The departed lived on the farm in Ludlow until about 10 years age when he retired, built a new home on the farm, where he lived until his passing.

He is survived by his wife, his son, his only remaining sister, Meta, Mrs. Ben Flage, and two grandchildren. Both of his parents, and his two brothers preceded him in death.
