Charles Gordon Brainard, son of Amos and Cora (Ewing) Brainard was born November 25, 1917 on a farm in Franklin Township, Allamakee County, Iowa. He passed away at Postville, Iowa on December 18, 1978 at the age of 61 years.
He spent his early life in Allamakee County and attended the “Red School” near Volney. On December 5, 1942 he was married to Margaret Tomlinson at the Little Brown Church near Nashua, Iowa. To this union eight children were born.
Charles served in the Army spending eight months at the European front. The couple farmed near “Evergreen” between Waukon and Postville. He lived recently in Postville where he spent his retired life traveling and several winters in Texas.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one son Gordon.
Charles is survived by his wife, five sons: George, of Cody, Wyoming, Harvey, Las Vegas, Nevada, Clinton and Neal, both of Postville, Earl, Garnavillo; two daughters: Marion (Mrs. Garvin Nienhaus), Forest City, Iowa, Jeanann (Mrs. Glen Warner), Rochester, Minnesota; eight grandchildren; four brothers: Forest of Postville, Clarence (Sr.), Milo, and Adelbert, all of Postville; and three sisters: Irene Brainard and Alice Brainard of Luana, and Beulah (Mrs. Vincent Bowers) of Monona, Iowa
