Another Pioneer Mother Passes
Katherine Eliza Wendel was born at Dorchester, Allamakee county, on Nov. 21, 1857. She was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Wendel, among the earlier citizens of the county. The family lived on May’s Prairie for many years. Her marriage to John A. Sandry took place March 21, 1882, on Mays Prairie. The family lived for many years on what is know as the Haynes farm, north of Gruber ridge. They removed to Lansing about eight years ago. After a lingering illness Mrs. Sandry passed away on Thursday afternoon last, 15th inst. Her age was 64 years. Every care and attention was given her, and so far as possible her every wish was gratified. She was a dutiful, kind, loving wife and mother, a friend to those in distress and was ever mindful of the interests of others. Such was the everyday life of deceased, and her passing is greatly mourned as testified by the large attendance at her funeral on Saturday at 1:00 o’clock, p.m., from the Federated church, Rev. Arnold Keel, assisted by Revs. Krebs and Kohler, in charge. Brief services were also conducted in the home.
The following relatives are left to mourn her passing: Mrs. Clara Brown and Walter E. Sask., Canada, Arthur W., Waterville; Elmer J. and Mrs. Clifford Sadler, Lansing. Also two sisters, Mrs. Emelia Frederick, Detroit, Minn.; Mrs. Mathilda Trayer, Lansing, and three brothers, Louis, Nora Springs, Iowa; George, Mason City; John J., Lansing, and twelve grandchildren.
