Services Held Saturday for Mrs. Carrie L. Brooks

The death of Mrs. Carrie Louise Brooks, 94, occurred at the Carlson Nursing Home on Wednesday. Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon, January 2, at 1:30 p.m. at St Paul's Methodist Church with the Rev. Mr. Jack DeLong officiating. Interment was in the Evergreen cemetery in Jefferson township.

Mrs. Brooks was born in Michigan on March 28, 1870, a daughter of Myron and Mary Juillerat Stahl and had lived in Allamakee county since she was about 2 yrs old. She was very community minded, an avid reader and a devout church worker as long as health would permit.

She was married to John M. Brooks and they are the parents of five children, the following surviving. Allen Brooks, rural Waukon; Kenneth Brooks, Waukon and a daughter Jessie, Mrs. John Ralston, Junction City, Oregon. Her husband and sons William and Myron precided her in death. the latter fell in France during the WWI and a Gold Star Mother. Mrs. Brooks went to France to visit the grave of her son. There are 14 grandchildren, and 35 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild. One sister Mrs. John Palmer, Waukon, also survives.
