Frankville Boy Died a Hero.

When the news of the death of Myron John Brooks of Franklin township first reached home, in the form of a returned letter bearing the word "deceased," the parents refused to believe it, but later they received a telegram from the War Department confirming it, and on Feb. 1st, a letter came from the Chaplain of his regiment, the 359th Infantry, from which the following is quoted:

"In the loss of Myron J. Brooks our regiment wishes to express its keen regret. He died at Saint Mihiel sector on Sept. 26th, and his death was that of a patriot and hero. He was buried with all the military honors that could be given under the circumstances. We, the members of the regiment feel proud of him, proud of the fact that he was our brother-in-arms. He died in action, being killed instantly.

Deceased was born in Franklin township, Allamakee county, Iowa, on August 19th 1894, and died in France on Sept. 26th, 1918, at the age of twenty-four years. On April 26th, 1918, he left Waukon for Camp Dodge, volunteering to fill a vacancy, as his draft number had not been reached, and just five months later he gave his life for his country in France. He was the oldest son and was a source of great comfort to his parents who will miss him sadly till the end of life. Besides his parents, three brothers and one sister, he leaves a large circle of relatives, also many friends and acquaintances who were saddened by the news of his death.
