Martin Bisping died Saturday, May 14, 2005 after a long journey with the progressive disease of Alzheimer’s at his home in rural Dorchester, IA with his family at his side. He died in the home in which he was born and has lived his entire life.
Martin was born the only child to Edward and Rosena (Deters) Bisping on July 9, 1920. Martin attended a small stone school house in Union City Township through the eighth grade and went on to graduate from Caledonia High School in 1939. He married Doris Evelyn Munkel on June 4, 1941 at St Luke’s United Church of Christ in Eitzen.
Martin farmed the family farm his entire life. He also worked as a construction laborer and a factory worker until his retirement in 1985.
He was a member of St Luke’s United Church of Christ, Eitzen. He served on committees for the community of Eitzen and its celebrations. He belonged to and called for several square dance groups and was past president of the Sons of Norway Valheim Lodge 364.
Martin is survived by his wife Doris and his seven children and their spouses: Gary and Ann Bisping, Portage WI; Gale and Nickie Bisping, Rochester; Greta and Bob Meek, Rochester; Eric and Diane Bisping, Onalaska, WI; Mark and Susan Bisping, Rochester; Kathryn and Butch Spate, Selma, CA; Doreen (Dee Dee) and Jeff Slifka, Rochester; 24 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two daughter in-laws.
Friends may call at the Roble Funeral Home in Spring Grove on Wednesday from 5-7 p.m. The funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Thursday at St Luke’s United Church of Christ in Eitzen.
