Ernie Earl Engan, 19, of Eitzen, MN, died Tuesday, May 28, 2002, in rural Caledonia, MN, as a result of a construction accident. He was born October 7, 1982, in Waukon, IA, to Ernie and Lori (Hefte) Engan. He was a lifelong area resident. He was baptized at Waterloo Ridge Lutheran Church, rural Spring Grove. Ernie graduated from Caledonia High School in 2001.
He farmed for Devoine Kruse before going to work for Kermit Meyer Construction. Ernie was an avid outdoorsman and loved dirt bike racing, hunting, fishing and snowmobiling.
Ernie is survived by his parents, Ernie and Lori Engan; grandparents, Ernest and Juanita Engan, Dorchester, IA, Richard Hefte, Spring Grove, and Lloyd and Sharon Teff, Dorchester; a brother Kevin, Eitzen; a sister Allie, also of Eitzen; and several aunts, uncles and cousins. Also surviving is his girlfriend, Jennifer Houdek of Caledonia.
Services were held Friday, May 31, 2 pm, at Big Canoe Lutheran Church, in rural Decorah, IA, with burial in the church cemetery. Pastor David H. Andreae officiated. Friends called Friday from 12-2 pm at the church. Roble Funeral Service, Spring Grove, was in charge of arrangements.
