Mrs. Anna Barbara Senholz, nee Beck, was born in Bernan, Germany, April 2, 1841, and died at her home in Postville, Iowa, a little after six o'clock Wednesday morning, Sept. 4, 1912, aged 71 years, five months and two days. She came to this country with her parents in 1852, her mother dying while they were journeying northward up the Mississippi river to their destination. The father and daughter settled first near Guttenberg and later located near Garnavillo, where she was confirmed. In November 1859 she was married to Charles Senholz. This union was blessed with seven children, all living except one. After having lived on their own farm in Grand Meadow township for 17 years, they came to Postville in 1892 and for twenty years past have resided here enjoying the fruits of their frugality. November [note: day is 2 digits - possibly a 15 or a 19], 1909, they celebrated their Golden Wedding anniversary. A few years ago disease laid hold of her, since which time she has been a patient sufferer, and at times wished the the Lord, in whom she believed, might call her home. All that medical skill and tender care could do for her was done. While unable to attend church, she frequently asked her pastor to come and pray with her and at times strengthened her faith by partaking in the sacred sacrament of the Holy Communion. A few times since Pentecost she attended church, being brought in her invalid's chair. She loved the house of worship, and now she seeth him in whom she believed, the dear Lord Jesus. Mrs. Senholz was a spendid type of christian womanhood, a faithful wife, devoted mother, a true friend and good neighbor, who in the fullness of years has been called home to receive the reward that await the pure in heart in the Eternal City, whose builder and maker is God. She is survived by her 82 year old husband and six children, namely -- Mrs. Henry Garms, Charles City; Mrs. Chris Salzgeber, Postville; Mrs. Henry Meyer, Castalia; Mrs. Will C. Thoma, Postville; George of Griswold and Charley at home; a sister and a brother, four sonsinlaw, a daughterinlaw; grand and great grandchildren, and innumerable friends, and may God comfort them all. The funeral was held from the Lutheran church at two o'clock this afternoon, Rev. R. Kuehne officiating and was largely attended. The Frauen-Verein attended in a body, the Maennerchor assisted the church choir in the song service and the floral offerings were profuse and beautiful. Interment in Postville cemetery.
