February 25, 1933 - August 30, 2006

Ruth A. Cole, 73, of Waukon, IA, formerly of Lansing, IA, died Wednesday, August 30, 2006 at Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon, following a sudden illness. Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 2nd at 10:30 am at St. John's Lutheran Church in Waukon, with Rev. Lynn G. Groe officiating. Burial will be in Mays Prairie Cemetery, rural Lansing. Friends may call from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Friday at Martin Funeral Home in Waukon.

Ruth Abigal Heidemann Cole was born on February 25, 1933 in the Mays Prairie area of rural Lansing, IA. Her parents were Harold and Pearl (Ingles) Heidemann. Ruth attended Mays Prairie Country School. On March 11, 1950 she married Harold Cole in Caledonia, MN. They moved to Cedar Rapids for a time and later returned to the Mays Prairie area where she lived until moving to Waukon in 1998. Ruth was a busy mother and homemaker when her children were young. Later, from 1977 until 1992 she worked as a Nurse's Aid at Thornton Manor Care Center in Lansing. She enjoyed spending time working crossword puzzles and word games, fishing and being around animals, especially cats and dogs. Some of her favorite times were spent meeting friends for a visit at the local Hardees and spending time with her family especially her grandchildren on holidays and special occasions.

Survivors include 2 daughters, Carla (Jerry) Schnuelle of Waukon and Peggy Cole Willis of Elma, IA; a son, Danny (Frances) Cole of Lansing; 6 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; a sister, Betty (Jim) Carter of Harpers Ferry, IA; and 2 brothers, Harold (Belva) Heidemann of Lisbon, IA and Charles Heidemann of Waterloo, IA. She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband Harold, who died in 1991; 2 sons, Murvel and Bruce; and a sister, Dorothy Welper.

Casketbearers are Danny Cole Jr., Travis and Adam Schnuelle, Dustin Folsom, Bob Ingles and Ted Benda. Honorary Casketbearers are Carlton Christianson, Robert and Donald Leppert and Curtis Gramlich.
