Obituary of Fred Block

Fred William Block was born at Husum, Hanover, Germany, December 7, 1843. In year 1872 he immigrated to America, settling at Guttenberg, Iowa. From there he moved with his family in 1887 to Monona, Iowa. In 1888 he moved on a farm in Wagner township near Gunder, and in 1894 he took possession of a farm in Grand Meadow township. In 1905 he retired from farming and with his wife lived with their son Henry until 1919, when they came to Postville. After an illness of several weeks he departed this life on Sunday, Nov. 5, 1922, at 4:30 p. m., aged 78 years, 10 months and 28 days. His wife preceded him in death Feb. 15, 1920.
He leaves to mourn his death his sons, Henry and Fred, and one daughter, Anna, five grandchildren and one half-brother, William Block of Guttenberg.
The funeral was held at 1:30 from St. Paul’s Lutheran church, Rev. E. Schmidt officiating. Interment in the Postville cemetery.
In this connection the family wish to thank the many neighbors and friends for their assistance and sympathy during the illness and burial of their beloved father.
