Otis O. Stockton, 87, of Anamosa, formerly of Waukon, died Wednesday, July 31, 2002, at Jones Regional Medical Center in Anamosa following a lengthy illness. Funeral services were held Friday, August 2, at 1:00 p.m. at Martin Funeral Home in Waukon, with Rev. Daniel French and Rev. David Fro-ines officiating.
Burial with graveside military rites was in Oakland Cemetery, Waukon. Memorial services will also be held in Monticello at Monticello Baptist Church on August 11, at 2:00 p.m. Martin Funeral Home assisted with arrangements.
Otis Orrington Stockton was born February 19, 1915, in Waukon, the son of Oliver and Eliza (Steven) Stockton, He attended rural Waukon elementary schools and graduated from Waukon High School in 1936.
He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps as a sergeant, parachute rigger and repairman from 1940 to 1945, seeing time in North Africa and Europe. He received the Bronze Star and other decorations.
On July 7, 1945, he married Lillian Arlene Powell at First Baptist Church in Waukon. Otis and Lillian farmed in the rural Luana area and Waukon for 25 years. He also worked in the maintenance department for Luther College in Decorah for several years and for Maranatha College in Watertown, Wis., and Calvary Church School in Normal, Ill.
Otis and Lillian have lived in Anamosa since 1984. He was a member of Monticello Baptist Church, American Legion in Anamosa, and was a charter member of the Waukon VFW. Otis enjoyed woodworking, growing vegetables in his garden, and spending time with family and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents; a grandson, Mark Froines; and two sisters, Gretta Fitzsimmons and Marguerite Spain. Survivors include his wife, Lillian of Anamosa; a daughter, Gloria (David) Froines of Oakland, Calif.; two sons, Daniel (Deborah) Stockton of Mesa, Ariz., and Richard (Darla) Stockton of Anamosa; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a sister, Edith Estep of Aurora, Colo.; four brothers, Adrian Stockton, Pasadena, Texas, Charles (Joyce) Stockton of Taconia, Wash., Frederick Stockton of Puyalup, Wash., and Robert (Mary) Stockton of Fort Atkinson, Wis.; and several nieces and nephews.
Honorary casketbearers were Don Zimmerman, George Arduser, Dave Kozak and Hartley Enyart, Jr. Casketbearers were Richard, Daniel, and Steven Stockton; Lawrence Powell; Owen Myhre; and Ronnie O'Dell.
